Well.. I saw this report in the Gulf Daily News, and again, I heard bells ringing in my head...!!

Could it be related to the other crimes taking place? (slight pause..) Who is paying for all these scrap metals?? (another sarcastic pause...)

Pair jailed for stealing road signs

TWO Bahraini teenagers have been jailed for six months each for stealing aluminium roadwork signs, which are allegedly worth BD400. The youngsters, aged 17 and 18, were caught with nine stolen road signs on the back seat of a car in Karzakan.

A policeman spotted them folding the signs by hitting them with a hammer and gave chase.

They initially managed to escape into a farm on foot, but were later arrested when the 18-year-old emerged through the main gate.

He gave the police the name and telephone number of his accomplice and confessed to stealing the "diversion" road signs.

"We picked up nine signboards, put them in the car and went home," he told police.

"The next morning we took the car to a farm, parked there and started to take out the signboards and fold them with the hammer.

"Then the police patrol appeared, saw us and arrested us."

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old claimed he was beaten by arresting officers in his police statement.

He also said they stole the road signs to pay for petrol.

"There was no fuel in our car and we did not have any money in our pockets," he told police.

"We headed towards Karzakan near the farms and saw some signboards at a worksite.

"We stopped the car and stole nine aluminium signboards."

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to stealing despite confessing to police.

They were convicted by the Lower Criminal Court after spending over two weeks in police custody. "

i know i haven't posted in AGES.... in fact.. i was sooo close to giving up on this...!! but i couldn't resist this...!! as i'm used to posting comments on other blogs rather than posting something myself... but this... ohh it just got to me!

You see, in Bahrain, aluminium doors are the latest hot item on the market... and i don't mean the local market! A friend of mine was horrified to come home one night only to find that her front door was missing!! wait.. it gets better, her neighbor tells her that when he went for maghrib prayers to the local mosque, everything was fine, and it was only on his way back that he noticed it was gone!... wait... there's more... when she called the cops... they came around and investigated (really.. what could they do?) she asked them how someone could do such a thing.. and so quickly too... what was his reply?? "If your door was here, I could show you in 5 minutes"

Now I don't know if i'm putting 2 and 2 together, but don't ads like this promote such crimes? "competitive price paid in cash" hmm... i wonder how many times someone can say.. ya.. we're replacing our old door.. so thought i'd sell u this one!

Feeling nostalgic, homesick, and a flip through my photo album brought back bittersweet memories. I took this pic about a year ago while on a shotr trip back to Bahrain. I realize that it would've looked much better had i used the panoramic option. Until i find something intelligent to say, i hope you can enjoy this :)

I'd like to think i created a blog simply to rant, but i do realize that the world does not revolve around my existence.

Following on from the BlogFather, Mahmood , and more recently, Bahraini Blog and Random Blog , I hope this space becomes a regular stop for most of you.

Exams have just ended :) and i feel unplugged!!! This void (well not really, there’s a dissertation waiting for “someone” to write it!) led me to my latest venture.

My latest topic of interest is the issue of freedom of expression online, specifically regarding the recent proposal by the MoI in Bahrain. Mahmood has started an interesting discussion on this issue. Now I know some of you think it’s going to blow over, but this issue needs to be resolved at many different levels, the legal bit being of PRIME importance! And with my postings, i'd like to know where i stand in this issue!

Enough politics for one night! I’ll be back soon :)
